Q) Do I still need spectacles if I wear contact lenses?
A)We recommend that you try to give your eyes a rest from contact lenses for at least one day per week. For this reason, you will probably need a pair of spectacles. There may also be occasions when you cannot wear your contact lenses - for example, if your eyes start to itch from hay fever, if you have a bad cold, if you are taking medication not compatible with contact lens wear.
Q) Is my prescription the same for both spectacles and contact lenses?
A) Your contact lens prescription will be different to your spectacle prescription so extra eye tests are required in order to determine the correct lenses for your requirements. Please mention at the time of booking that you would like a sight test too.

Q) Is it possible to get contact Lenses for one off use? How often do I need new ones?
A) Many spectacle wearers want the option of wearing contact lenses for certain occasions only. For this we would recommend daily disposable lenses. The lenses offer superb convenience and do not require any lens care.
Q) Can I get contact lenses for astigmatism/if I wear varifocals
At David Clulow we offer contact lenses designed to correct astigmatism in daily, monthly and two weekly modalities. You’ll need to visit your optician to assess your prescription. As this is a specialised lens it may take more than one appointment to fit them. There are varifocal contact lenses available and monovision which also correct for distance and near vision. Varifocal contact lenses are available in daily and monthly. You will need to see your optician to assess your Rx. These lenses are more complex so again may take longer to fit than contact lenses simply for distance.
Q) How often do I need a contact lens consultation?
Regular eye examinations and contact lens aftercare consultations are important to maintain eye and corneal health. It is recommended to have a contact lens consultation on an annual basis, during an aftercare examination an Optometrist will recommend the frequency of the next aftercare. Contact lens wear will rarely cause serious eye problems but changes to the eyes can occur without you noticing any symptoms . Regular checkups allow the optometrist to spot any of these changes and ensure lenses worn are still the most appropriate for your eyes. It also allows the optometrist to advise you of any advances in contact lens technology that could be of benefit to you.
Q) Do I need to have a consultation if I just want coloured contact lenses?
It is necessary to have a contact lens consultation or a valid contact lens prescription to purchase coloured contact lenses. It is very important for the optometrist to assess the eye health and contact lenses as coloured contact lenses generally supply less oxygen to the eye than regular contact lenses.
Q) Are contact lenses comfortable to wear?
Soft contact lenses drape over the eyes and are very thin. After a brief adjustment period most report they cannot feel the lens in the eye. They now also come in many different materials which are suitable for dry eyes and can be worn for much longer
